About Elliot
Hi, I'm Elliot, and I study Mathematics at the University of Bristol. I achieved 4 A*s at A-Level in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Music, alongside nine 9s (including Maths) and two 8s at GCSE. I have recently completed my first year at university.
I have always had a strong interest in pure mathematics, and I enjoy thinking deeply about mathematical structures and ideas. Through tutoring, I hope to help students move beyond simply memorising techniques and towards developing a genuine understanding of (and interest in) the mathematics they are studying.
I aim to be patient, thoughtful, and encouraging in lessons, and I enjoy working with students at a range of levels: from those looking to build confidence in the basics to those aiming for top grades.

My teaching focuses on developing genuine understanding of the underlying mathematics rather than simply memorising methods to apply in the exam. I attempt to help students discover why ideas work, often by presenting concepts from different perspectives. In my experience, this not only leads to stronger results and better problem-solving skills, but also helps to make the process of learning mathematics more enjoyable.
I am probably best suited to students aiming for top GCSE or A level grades, especially those studying or considering further maths A level, MAT/TMUA preparation, or even university maths more generally.
That said, I am equally happy to work with students whose primary goal is simply to improve confidence, strengthen the basics, or secure a pass. I will adapt my lessons to the individual student's level and goals.
A typical lesson might include:
- Building deep conceptual understanding of a topic
- Exploring multiple approaches to problems
- Developing problem-solving skills
- Working through challenging or unfamiliar questions

I recently completed my first year studying Mathematics at University of Bristol, after achieving 4 A*s at A-Level in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Music. My own interests in mathematics are particularly in pure mathematics, and I enjoy sharing some of the deeper structure and elegance behind the subject wherever appropriate.
