About January
I am a qualified and experienced Maths teacher specialising in A-level Maths (Edexcel, AQA and OCR), with experience teaching students from GCSE through to A-level.
I have worked with a wide range of students, including those aiming for top grades as well as those who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or lacking confidence in maths. I understand that many students struggle not because they can’t do maths, but because they haven’t been taught in a way that works for them.
I also have experience as an examiner, which means I can help students understand exactly what is required to gain marks and how to approach exam questions effectively.
I offer a calm, supportive approach and take time to adapt explanations to suit each student. My aim is to help students feel more in control of their learning and less overwhelmed by maths.
I offer daytime availability, which is ideal for home-educated students, students studying flexibly, or those who benefit from a quieter learning environment.

My lessons are structured, clear and tailored to the individual student. I focus on breaking down topics step by step so that students understand the why behind the methods, not just how to follow a process.
A typical lesson will involve:
Identifying areas of difficulty or gaps in understanding
Working through examples together with clear explanations
Guided practice with support
Developing exam technique and confidence with exam-style questions
I adapt the pace depending on the student and regularly check understanding to make sure they are keeping up without feeling overwhelmed.
For A-level students, I place a strong emphasis on:
problem solving and linking topics together
recognising common question types
understanding how marks are awarded
I aim to create a calm, focused environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence over time.
