Ms Burvill-Shaw was my Ancient History teacher in high school. She taught me research skills that I took with me to university when studying my law degree and which I still use today working as a solicitor. I’ve never had a teacher who cared about the well being of her students (both academic and practical) as much as SBS.
Sue is the ultimate professional in the teaching/learning environment. I worked with Sue for a number of years and attribute much of my own success in education to the skills and knowledge which Sue demonstrated to me in my early years of teaching. Sue has a genuine desire to see all people engage in lifelong learning
Sue was one of those teachers that you never forget. Almost 10 years on from high school, I still tell people that Ms Burvill-Shaw was the one that taught me how to write critically and how to structure a written argument. These foundations carried me through law and English literature studies - writing academic articles, honours theses, and creative fiction. More than that, she truly inspired me with the way she saw and believed in me. She has a sincere passion for teaching that leaves a lasting impact on her students. Sue’s wealth of experience - not only as a teacher but also as a lifelong learner and subject matter expert - gives her the ability to convey difficult and complex topics in a way that is easy to grasp. A teacher that doesn’t just teach you this term’s topic, but how to think and how to write with conviction and clarity.
Sue was my ancient history teacher in high school. She has an impressive and sophisticated command of English and History concepts. But more importantly, I have seen her uplift and empower students of all different abilities to develop greater confidence, push beyond what they initially thought was possible, and for some, fall in love with the subject. Even though I ended up pursuing medicine in the end, Sue has transformed the way I view the world which has impacted how I practice every day.
Sue is an incredible English teacher! Her lessons are very engaging and well planned. She has an incredible energy in her teaching, and really takes the stress out of learning new (and sometimes tedious) material. I 100% recommend Sue as an educator and overall great human being!
I have worked in the same school as Sue and my children have been taught by her. She is definitely one of the most dedicated and knowledgable teachers I have ever worked with. She is a super intelligent lady with a caring disposition.
Sue is one of the most dedicated and effective teachers I have worked with. If you are looking for tutoring in a history, education or a research based subject, Sue has a wealth of experience to bring to the table. Not only will Sue target your writing skills but enhance your thinking processes to develop a more sophisticated approach to the topic. Sue's feedback is clear and strategic. I've witnessed many students improve significantly under Sue's guidance.
I worked with Sue for many years when we were both Heads of Faculty at St Aidan's Anglican Girls' School. Sue is an intelligent, creative teacher. For me, she is also a trusted colleague and collaborator.
At St Aidan's, we worked together to implement the Big History Project. This gave me the opportunity to team-teach with Sue. I learned an enormous amount from her meticulous planning and innovative pedagogy. She thinks deeply about her practice as a teacher and inspired me to do likewise.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Sue for any role for which she felt qualified to apply.Having worked with Sue for many years I can state that she is a dedicated and outstanding teacher of English and Ancient History. She gives more than 100% to her students and I wish her all the best for her future.
