About Roxi
Hello!
My name's Roxi, and I'm a literacy coach with over 10 years of experience. I have been trained in early reading and phonics skills, and have worked with hundreds of kids to improve their reading and writing skills
I have also worked as an English tutor and instructor, and have advanced knowledge of teaching techniques for English grammar, and for improving comprehension of texts and expression of thoughts and opinions in English
I treat every student as a unique individual (as we all are!) and make sure to gear the program to meet their specific needs - ensuring any knowledge gaps are filled, and curating the program to the interests of the student
I can also provide coaching and support for parents, so they know the best ways to support their child's learning - the more support a student has, the better set up they are to succeed

Hello! I work with students to improve literacy and reading. I use a comprehensive phonetics and grammar program, and also work with students to improve comprehension of texts.
I work with students of all ages and backgrounds, although usually students are 6-13 years old.
***I gear the lessons to the specific needs of each student
***I can provide coaching to parents for how to support their child's learning during this process (suitable reading materials, fun games to play, and explanations of what we are learning)
We can work on BASIC LITERACY skills:
-I use a comprehensive phonetics program to learn the 42 sounds we use in English, and how to segment and blend those sounds (which basically means how to use them to read and write)
-We will practice using those skills for reading and writing, and increase the difficulty of the texts as those skills develop
-We will learn common "tricky words" (words that are not spelled phonetically) and incorporate those into our reading and writing
-Using phonetics programs has been proven to create a really strong foundation for literacy, giving kids a huge leg up in school
-Phonetics programs are designed to help every student learn to read, especially those that are struggling with early reading skills
We can work on INTERMEDIATE LITERACY skills:
-Strengthening and practicing the foundational literacy skills, and filling in any gaps there may be
-Learning more about alternative spellings
-Learning more "tricky words" (words that are not spelled phonetically) and learning about helpful patterns that can be found in groups of tricky words
-Learning basic (and moving into intermediate) grammar rules in English and how to use those rules effectively
-This program helps to create and strengthen reading and writing skills, and is excellent preparation for writing essays, stories, and tests in schools
We can work on ADVANCED LITERACY skills:
-Continuing to learn more intermediate and advanced English grammar skills
-Practicing comprehension of texts (often kids can read well, but need more practice understanding the information contained in the text)
-Practicing discussing the information contained in texts, citing the source of the information, creating well thought out opinions based on texts for discussion purposes
-Beginning to learn essay format
-This program lays an excellent foundation for middle school and high school essay writing, creative writing, and test taking
