About Max
I am a Chinese-language YouTuber who frequently travels in China, filming travel and food content entirely in Mandarin. This keeps my language authentic, up to date, and closely connected to real everyday communication and culture. With my practical knowledge and past experience, I aim not only to teach the language but also to guide students in how Mandarin is actually used in daily life.
I hold HSK 4 and GCSE Mandarin, so I understand clearly what examiners look for and how students can successfully achieve these qualifications. I have also worked in translation for fashion companies, which has given me strong knowledge of professional terminology and Chinese business etiquette.
I would love to take on motivated students and help them build confidence in speaking, reading, and writing Mandarin. I offer structured lessons alongside mentorship, encouragement, and practical advice so you can make steady, real progress.

I take a communicative, student-centred approach to tutoring Mandarin, focusing on practical language use and natural speaking ability. I lived in China for 13 years and completed primary, middle, and high school there, which has given me strong cultural understanding and fluent, colloquial Mandarin. I hold GCSE Mandarin and HSK 4, and I use my real-life experience to help students sound natural in everyday conversations.
In my classes, I emphasise pronunciation and tones, listening and speaking practice, and reading and writing skills. I use techniques such as role-play, comprehensible input, spaced repetition, and targeted feedback. A typical lesson includes review, new material, guided practice, and free conversation. Lessons are usually 50–60 minutes, with 30-minute options available.
I have experience teaching both children and adults, from complete beginners to intermediate learners. My lessons are suitable for students learning Mandarin for school, HSK preparation, travel, or daily communication, and I tailor each lesson to individual goals and levels.
