About Ishy
My name is Ishy and I'm a current graduate student completing my Interdisciplinary Studies degree at New York University. I attended SOAS, University of London for my undergraduate studies in Philosophy. I am currently a Dean's Scholar in the Humanities at Gallatin, NYU. I am able to tutor a range of Humanities subjects up to GCSE level, as well as Music, Spanish and English. I completed four Cambridge Pre-U's at A-Level, so am well-versed to assist those undertaking their A-Levels and help them to achieve a much wider and deeper understanding of their subject and the requirements of the course. Whether it's individual homework assignments, preparing for mock or real exams, coursework, or general catch-up work, I am happy to move between assignments to support tutees arrive at their specific goals. My teaching experience is varied! I've been a lecturer and mentor for Thinking Black, an interdisciplinary social enterprise based out of Pembroke College, Oxford. In the past two years, I've had experience working one-on-one with students in a range of subjects from English to Music, and up to Degree level in a few. I have also worked with 1st and 2nd year undergraduate students to help develop their academic writing skills and critical thinking. My teaching style is interest-focused. I try to inspire or hone in on an interest the student has or picks up and encourage an exploratory attitude towards expanding their knowledge. I am flexible and can adapt my approach based on the needs of the student. As an interdisciplinary student, I enjoy finding continuities between topics and help students synthesise their own interests into the subjects they're studying, even at earlier stages such as GCSEs. Subjects (A-Levels/ Pre-U's & Above): - Philosophy (& Theology) - Religious Studies - English - Government & Politics - Critical & Cultural Theory Subjects (GCSE's): - Music - English Language & Literature - History - Spanish - Religious Studies - Philosophy I can help out with: - Specific assignments/ homework - Writing skills (essays and other forms) - Reading and research skills - Creative Writing and more...
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor
I’ve known Ishy for years and by far one of my favourite things about our friendship is that we have intellectual conversations. He has always driven me to think critically and be rigorous in my framing of arguments and wording which has only served to deepen my knowledge and understanding on a subject.
Ishy can be so creative in how he gets his point across which works wonders for me as I have ADHD. Even if I don’t get it the first 3 times, there will always be another way he can make me understand and keep ahold of my easily wavering attention. And we have these conversations for fun. So in a teaching environment, I feel there are few better who can challenge students and so easily adapt their own teaching style to accommodate different needs. Ishy loves learning himself and there is no better way to continue to learn than to teach others. Just speaking with him on a regular basis enriches my life beyond measure and I really hope more people get to benefit from his knowledge and experience.View more recommendations
