About Nicholas

I called time on a successful trading career to do things I love. One of these is teaching people and watching them grow and succeed...whether it's a handful of lessons or over a multi-year period it's such a pleasure to be able to share the fun and joy that Economics, on the surface the dullest of subjects, has brought to me and my life.

If you wish to sit being lectured by some pompous adult, I am not your tutor. But if you want to be engaged, made to think, learn to apply what you have learnt in a discussion or even a lively debate, then I am your tutor.

Of course we won't let your exams out of our sight, but mastery of economics exams first sits in deep understanding of the topic and then we can strategise the paper. 20 years trading for an investment bank also taught me how to act with total calm under heavy pressure...if you are worried about exams, again I am your tutor.

We will need to hold our sessions where a little noise is permitted! This is going to be fun! Frankly, if you are not looking forward to my sessions in advance, I will need to improve them.

Lessons are primarily available Monday to Wednesday, 9.30am–3pm, but let's talk if you need something outside those hours!

About the lesson

Available both online and in person, my lessons are a little different from those of a typical Economics tutor.

With 20 years of frontline financial markets experience, I bring economic concepts to life through real-world examples, often drawn from the news that very day. My aim is not merely to teach the syllabus, but to infect students with a love for the subject and open their eyes to the world around them, in a fun, engaging and high-energy environment.

I'm a huge proponent of visual aids, practical examples and active discussion. I expect my students to be speaking at least as much as I do during a lesson! Understanding economics means learning to think critically, question assumptions and apply ideas, not simply memorising diagrams and definitions.

I typically teach students aged 15 and over, although I'm very happy to adapt my approach for younger learners. As a father of three, I'm certainly no stranger to reacting to children's needs!

I have varied teaching and mentoring experience, including private tuition, charitable educational work and extensive workplace training throughout my banking career.

Whether you're preparing for exams, struggling with a particular topic or simply want to understand economics and financial markets more deeply, I aim to make every lesson useful, challenging and enjoyable.
