About Bailey
Hello and Bonjour! I am a P-12 certified French teacher with a master’s degree in French literature and a certificate in French-English translation. I have always been passionate about languages and travel, studying Spanish, French and Italian throughout childhood and young adulthood. I have near-native French fluency and over 5 years of experience teaching and tutoring beginner to advanced French levels in elementary, secondary and post-secondary settings. I also have over 10 years of experience working as a translator from French, Spanish and Italian into US and UK English, working for companies such as CreditSuisse and Givenchy.

For me, teaching a foreign language is all about connections: how does this language apply to you? What are your goals in speaking it? As a high school teacher, for example, I hosted a tutoring and re-testing initiative twice weekly, where I covered a variety of topics with a focus on real-world application, providing students the opportunity to re-test over material as needed. Ensuring that each student connected the material to their own lives in a safe and engaging learning space boosted not only their comprehension of the material, but also their self-efficacy. This initiative is an underlying force of my teaching philosophy, as I believe that everyone is capable of mastery given the proper real-world connection. With the student’s individual goals and level of prior knowledge in mind, I discuss topics via engaging lesson plans and materials that stress these real-world connections. I then ensure the student practices these concepts in a safe learning environment, where mistakes are viewed as a necessary learning tool, and where the student’s growth and understanding are measured consistently and appropriately.
