About Liam
I am currently an academic mentor at Eton College and in the process of applying for a particle physics PhD. Previously, I had just finished my postgraduate Physics Masters degree from UCL after obtaining a Physics Bachelors degree from Imperial College. Understanding the universe at the most fundamental level is what I find fascinating, with Mathematics playing a crucial role in this endevarour as well as being the basis of science. I also enjoy the numerical problem solving that comes with these subjects, plus the huge real world applications that are provided by utilizing them effectively.
Throughout my GCSE and A level studies I had a tutor that helped me through the scientific portion. This allowed me to reinforce concepts learnt at school, clarify problems that I had come across and also obtain knowledge about the unviersity application procedure. Taking exams is never easy but with the appropriate tools, practises and effort I believe anyone can achieve the goals that they set.
Outside of my secondary school and college studies I belonged to their respective rugby union teams, as well as representing the county of Warwickshire. Nowadays outside of the classroom I have a keen interest in the art of film and video games.

I believe that good communication and a deep understanding of one’s subject is crucical to passing on knowledge to students. Having been tutored myself, I feel confident in relaying these skills so that you are able to fulfill your potential and get the most from your studies.
With regards to tutorial content, it is ultimately the student’s choice for material they want to cover and I will do my best to bring them up to standard. One way of doing this is to break down the simplified syllabus and choose areas you may not be confident in and then I can prepare lessons around those areas. Another way is to provide a question, from some homework for example, that wasn’t understood or just some concepts within class that didn’t get absorbed. From here I can structure the lesson so that you get a firm understanding of these concepts, as well as guiding you through appropriate questions step-by-step. This will enable you to feel confident in tackling these problems by yourself and then eventually in the exam scenario.
Within Mathematics practise is a crucial factor to achieving success. Of course you need a good understanding of the concepts and this can come from the teacher, books, tutor and also from questions and answers. Once a good grasp of the concepts is achieved then homework questions, book questions and past paper questions are the best resources, with major focus being on past papers nearer exam time.
