About Daniel
Hello, my name's Daniel and I'm currently in my fourth year studying for a Masters in Informatics. This is a really exciting course to be enrolled on, learning about innovative technologies in the field of AI where computers are programmed to learn from their mistakes, finding optimal solutions to real world problems. Outside of my studies, I love anything to do with the outdoors, from fell running in the Lake District to skiing in France. I also spend my summers working as a beach lifeguard where, like tutoring, I get to help people and is similarly very rewarding. Having done my GCSEs and 4 A Levels, I know how stressful exams can be, but I also know how to revise for them effectively. I also know how to share my knowledge with others which I developed during my time as a volunteer Maths Mentor during year 13, where once a week I would help a number of year 12 students with any topics they were struggling to understand. Since then, I have been tutoring part time and have delivered over 350 hours of tuition and have received 8 five star reviews (on a previous platform called MyTutor) from previous students. With this much experience, I know exactly how to help each individual pupil, taking into account their subject ability and any additional needs. I really enjoy seeing pupils realise their potential and achieve their goals. So, if you think I can help you or your child to rise to be the best they can be, shoot me a message and I'll be happy to help. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

In my lessons, I facilitate the best revision activity for STEM subjects: going through past-paper questions by topic. And more importantly, marking and correcting them. Practice makes permanent, so it’s essential that whatever we practise is (eventually) correct. Furthermore, where there are significant gaps in knowledge, I will teach material from first principles. This is not only so the student can get the right answer, but also to understand why it's correct. This is essential, as understanding why something is correct makes it more likely for the student to retain this knowledge so they can confidently apply it to similar questions in the future. As my lessons are carried out online via Microsoft Teams meetings, I maintain a permanent online 'Miro' whiteboard for each of my students. On this whiteboard, I have the following: - A calendar for us to keep track of how many lessons we have until exams. This means I can plan out lessons in advance to ensure we cover all topics. - A copy of the syllabus and any formula/data sheet for the particular subject and exam board. - A plethora of questions by topic that we will work through each week. These can then be looked back upon for revision, or even used as homework between lessons (if desired), as the student always has access to the board. - Closer to exams I will upload full past-papers for us to go through. - A space for me to teach complex topics from scratch with appropriate diagrams and examples should I feel it necessary to go back to first principles for a given topic. My experience of using this whiteboard setup with students has enabled my sessions to be as efficient as possible meaning we spend less time on admin, thus maximising the time available to go through content. *** Reviews: During my first two years of online tutoring, I worked completely on the MyTutor platform. The following reviews are from parents of the students I tutored on that platform. Amelia, 5 Stars: - Daniel taught my son for his GCSE’s and now A level physics. His lessons are fun, informative and engaging. After each lesson he sends thorough feedback about the lesson and identifies gaps and future plans for topics. He helps with exam preparation and papers, then focuses on areas of weakness. He is patient and develops confidence with his teaching. Julia, 5 Stars: - I have asked Daniel to help my daughter with the preparation for the A-level Physics exam during holidays. The lessons were helpful, as they went through some practice test questions together on the topics chosen by my daughter. But as a person, who was brought up in another country, I am perplexed why tutors here are not giving loads of homework in between sessions to drive the students to do more work, which can be then reviewed with the tutor. However, we highly recommend Daniel if you are looking for face-to-face revision of difficult topics. Alexandra, 5 Stars: Daniel is a really great teacher! My son loves his maths lessons and he can’t wait until the next one. His confidence in maths has improved massively since he started lessons with him. Daniel is thorough and organised as well as patient. His after lessons reports are always detailed. I can’t recommend him enough.
