About Ruby
I hold a Master’s in Philosophy with Distinction from the University of St Andrews and a First-Class degree in Philosophy and Politics from the University of Edinburgh. I have extensive tutoring experience across multiple levels, from GCSE and IB to A-Level and undergraduate courses. During my time at Edinburgh, I served as a Philosophy undergraduate tutor, supporting students with coursework, essays, and dissertation preparation.
I have personally tutored over 30 students through two-year IB and A-Level Philosophy courses, teaching the full syllabus and preparing them for exams. I have also guided students on Extended Essays and EPQs, helping them structure, research, and present their work to achieve their academic goals. My approach focuses on developing critical thinking, essay-writing, and analytical skills, tailored to each student’s needs and objectives.

Philosophy is an exciting, challenging subject that requires developed critical thinking skills. I find that many students struggle to approach philosophy papers, so an important part of my lessons is teaching students how to approach philosophy, how to read it, understand it and eventually write it. I tailor all my lessons to my students but usually work on reviewing or teaching course content, editing and re-drafting essays and coursework and exam preparation. I have taught a range of areas of philosophy such as ethics, feminist philosophy, political philosophy, philosophy of mind and philosophy of religion.
