About Ashlee
Ashlee Woodgate
Masters of Performance Teaching
Masters of Music Studies (Opera Performance)
Bachelor of Music with Distinction
Associate Diploma in Classical Voice
Ashlee Woodgate is an Australian soprano, vocal coach and performer who brings a warm, supportive and highly skilled approach to vocal teaching. With extensive professional experience across opera, musical theatre and contemporary performance, Ashlee helps students develop strong, healthy vocal technique while building confidence, expression and a genuine love of singing.
She made her professional debut as Mimi in La bohème with Opera Hunter in 2023, following her CONDA-nominated performance as Violetta Valéry in La Traviata. Ashlee has performed widely in Australia and internationally, including at Carnegie Hall in New York, and has sung leading roles with companies such as Opera Hunter, Outlaw Opera and Central Coast Opera.
Alongside her classical training, Ashlee also studied screen acting at the Film & Television Studio International in Melbourne. This background strongly informs her teaching, allowing her to guide students not only vocally, but also in storytelling, stage presence and emotional connection to the music.
Teaching Philosophy
Ashlee believes that great singing begins with trust, encouragement and clear technique. Her lessons focus on building healthy vocal foundations, developing musical understanding and helping each student feel confident and supported in their own voice. She understands that every singer learns differently and tailors her teaching to suit the student’s age, experience level and personal goals.
Whether a student is preparing for exams, auditions, performances or simply singing for enjoyment, Ashlee creates a calm and positive learning environment where students feel safe to explore, make mistakes and grow. She is passionate about helping singers develop versatility across styles while protecting their voices and fostering long-term vocal health.
Ashlee works with children, teenagers and adults, supporting beginners through to advanced singers in classical voice, music theatre and contemporary crossover styles.
Ashlee holds a Master of Music Studies (Opera Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, a Bachelor of Music with Distinction from the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, and an Associate Diploma in Classical Voice (AMEB).

"As a vocal coach Ashlee was always an encouraging and insightful mentor with an infectious and enthusiastic personality. She challenged me to experiment and introduced me to many different repertoires and helped me improve my tone, technique and overall quality and variety in my performances. Under her tutelage I received fantastic results and feedback in both my Eisteddfod and Grade 5 AMEB Musical Theatre Exams. She is an amazing teacher and I am grateful that I had an opportunity to learn from her"
— Alicia
"Our daughter Caitlan progressed from a beginner to singing confidently in front of an audience after 12 months of lessons with Ashlee. Ashlee’s musical knowledge and singing performances were exceptional; her teaching style was warm, calm and encouraging which motivated Caitlan to practice and improve. Caitlan saw Ashlee not only as a teacher, but a role model that she aspired to emulate. We would happily recommend Ashlee to anyone looking for a singing teacher."
