About Cynthia
I graduated from Claremont Graduate University in 1993 with an M.S. in Mathematics and began teaching community college students the year after. I ultimately taught in university accelerated adult re-entry programs in which working adults finished their Bachelor's degrees. During my time teaching adults, I also worked with Math/Science Upward Bound programs mentoring and tutoring high school students, both one-on-one and in small groups. I now tutor students as young as fourth grade and have found I work as well with elementary and middle school students as I do with high school and college/university students.

I am strongly empathetic, so when I work with students I can get a feeling for what method and style is most effective, and can explain concepts and methods in several ways. I work with students from fourth grade through adult, and with all levels of mathematical comfort. Whether the student needs homework help or an exposition on a particular topic or method, I like to speak and use a virtual whiteboard simultaneously. I enjoy using the Socratic Method by asking questions to guide the student along. Finally, I will have the student work problems on their own and explain to me what they did to be sure the student understands.

Cynthia is by far the best tutor I have ever had! She is incredibly patient and knowledgeable. During our tutoring sessions, she really took the time to explain the math topics in a way I understood without making me feel rushed or embarrassed. Cynthia truly is a gifted tutor.

She is patient, gives great examples, will break things down in small steps and make sure you fully understand material before you move on.
