About Tracey
Qualifications: I began tutoring while attending Mount St. Mary College, with a major in Mathematics and minors in business, computer science, and art. I graduated Summa Cum Laude, won their top Mathematics Award, and was invited to work with the National Science Foundation for a summer internship. I have worked with students for 40+ years, from K through college, and personally homeschooled my own four children for K-12 (all of whom completed college with honors...my one son even graduated from the US Air Force Academy). I also spent about 15 years in the business world, but I have been tutoring mathematics and test prep exclusively for the past 14 years.
More than all that, since childhood I have loved finding patterns and mental math tricks and love sharing them with my students. I am an advocate for each student and try to tailor lessons to each one's unique learning style.

Let's make math a success!
Taking multiple approaches to explain math concepts is essential as every student and each math course is a bit different. In my experience, it is important to understand the patterns and connections between math concepts. I take the time to explain problems with examples, math tools, and even quirky examples and rhymes, and for 'kids' I have lots of hands-on math manipulatives. Students generally learn better when they understand the 'why it works that way' and retain it better with review, mnemonics and visuals. I teach students 'math speak' so they can better utilize their math books and understand how to tackle word problems and tests.
Today's math student needs to have both sharp mental math skills as well as mastering the use of technology like graphing calculators. Test taking skills are introduced with each lesson so that students can be successful when asked questions out of the context of the normal classroom process of study a thing and then immediately test on it.
Currently, about half my students are online utilizing a 2-way platform (similar to zoom) but with a shared whiteboard that allows homework to be uploaded and worked through together I also meet in student homes, quiet local spots and at my clubhouse. I work with every level of math from Kindergarten to Calculus!
