About Isla
My passion for mathematics grew from an early appreciation for structure, patterns, and logical reasoning. This led me to pursue an M.Sc in Applied Mathematics, where I developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Over 11 years of teaching, I have supported students in rebuilding foundations, improving accuracy, and developing confidence through understanding rather than memorization. I believe effective mathematics teaching requires patience, empathy, and adaptability. Many learners struggle due to gaps in earlier learning or negative academic experiences. I take time to identify these challenges and address them carefully, ensuring students feel supported rather than rushed. I encourage questions, discussion, and independent thinking in every lesson. Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring applied mathematics and real-world problem modeling. Teaching mathematics is deeply fulfilling because I witness students move from self-doubt to confidence. Supporting learners as they discover their ability to think clearly and solve problems independently is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

Mathematics becomes clearer when students understand the reasoning behind methods rather than memorizing procedures without context. My lessons focus on algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics, all taught through structured explanation and logical progression. I help learners build clarity step by step, ensuring they understand how concepts connect and build upon one another.
Lessons are tailored to each learner’s academic level and goals. Beginners focus on number sense, algebra basics, and simple problem-solving strategies with guided support. Intermediate learners strengthen skills in equations, graphs, probability, and multi-step reasoning. Advanced learners explore calculus concepts, applications, and exam-focused techniques. Each lesson includes guided practice, feedback, and error analysis.
Mathematics lessons also build patience, focus, and analytical thinking across subjects. As learners gain confidence, they become more comfortable tackling unfamiliar problems independently. My goal is to help students replace anxiety with understanding and develop a positive, lasting relationship with mathematics.
