About Ergys
I'm a university lecturer with a PhD in mathematics, and teaching is genuinely the part of my work I enjoy most. Over the years I've taught hundreds of students across calculus, algebra, statistics, and discrete mathematics — both in the lecture hall and one-to-one — and I've learned that almost anyone can succeed in math with the right explanation and a bit of patience.
My background is academic and international: I completed my PhD in Norway and now lecture in computer science and mathematics, where I design courses, write the exams, and supervise student research. That means I know not only the subject but exactly how students are assessed and where they tend to lose marks — knowledge I bring directly into every lesson.
Above all, I'm patient and approachable. I won't make you feel behind, and I'll happily explain something three different ways until it clicks. My goal is simple: to help you understand the material, feel confident going into your exams, and maybe even start to enjoy a subject you once found intimidating.

My teaching method
I teach for understanding first, then technique. Rather than have you memorize procedures, I make sure you grasp *why* a method works — once the intuition is there, the steps stick and you can adapt them to unfamiliar problems. I use lots of worked examples, guided practice where you do the thinking with me alongside, and targeted questions that reveal exactly where a concept is breaking down so we can fix the root cause, not the symptom.
A typical lesson
We start with a quick check of where you are and what's giving you trouble. I then explain the key idea simply, work through one or two examples together, and hand the next problems to you while I guide. We finish by reviewing what clicked and what still needs work, and I set a few focused practice problems. Because I write and grade university exams myself, I weave in the exam technique and common-mistake awareness that turn understanding into actual marks. After each lesson you keep clear, fully worked solutions to revise from.
What sets me apart
I hold a PhD in mathematics and teach at university level, so I know the material deeply and can meet you wherever you are — from rebuilding confidence in the basics to advanced undergraduate topics. I'm patient, I explain things more than one way until they land, and I prepare custom, professionally typeset materials for every student rather than working from a generic textbook.
