About Shepard
I am a 22 year old mathematics major at Arizona State University (my home state). On track to start graduate degree later this year.
I've been obsessed with math and logical thinking from a very young age. In school, I would often be ahead of my classmates as I would find different and faster ways of doing problems and would explore the further implications of them.
In mathematics, although methodology is important, what matters most is whether you are able to produce the desired results (or be able to tell why the desired result is impossible). In my own experience as a lifelong math student, I've found that prioritizing comfort over conventionality not only allows for faster learning, but eventually the conventional (or most efficient) method becomes the preferred method.
Something I've also learned in my experience is just how impossibly huge math and physics are as subjects. You really can't blame anyone for not being able to grasp certain concepts. Misconceptions/misunderstandings are usually the result of the angle you the concept(s) view from. It can be hard to see things from a different perspective, especially when first encountering a new concept. I hope to offer some very useful perspectives I've picked up in dealing with a large variety of problems.

Approach is dependent on the needs of the learner. I can walk you through specific problems or teach broader subjects. During initial lessons, I will ask you a series of questions to identify both your goals and a good starting point for teaching. Any subsequent lessons will go based on the outcomes of the previous one.
My goal is to help you understand whatever you bring to me well enough so that you won't need to come back (at least, eventually). It is not my goal to lecture you or to make you feel stupid. You are more than welcome to speak up or ask any questions you feel necessary.
For any neurodivergent learners (or really anyone in general), I am very capable of making adjustments to create a more comfortable learning environment for you. Lessons are online only, however.
