About Alexander
Hello, my name is Alex Martlew and I am currently a Year 12 A-level student studying Maths, Further Maths and Economics. Alongside my studies, I run the advanced mathematics club at my school and have experience helping younger students improve their confidence and understanding of mathematics.
I am friendly and patient when it comes to teaching, and I am passionate about helping students understand why mathematical ideas work rather than simply memorising questions and answers. I understand that maths can be challenging, and I aim to create a comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions and developing a thorough understanding of topics that may not always be fully covered in depth at school.

My lessons focus on understanding mathematics rather than just memorising formulae and methods. This approach will build problem-solving skills essential for success in their exams, but also fundamental mathematical knowledge required for their future study. Each lesson, we will revise concepts they know or learn new ones, and I have a wide range of practice questions for each topic. I also set personalised homework every week for students to complete, which is tailored to their needs. A session can be anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour and a half, and will be aimed at Years 7-11 as that is the age I have previous teaching experience with.
