About Jacob
Hello, my name is Jacob and I'm currently a second year Doctor of Medicine student at the University of Western Australia. Besides medicine, another passion of mine is Mathematics, and I'm eager to pass on the knowledge and skills I've attained over years of my studies to help you achieve your dream scores. I graduated high school in 2015 with an ATAR of 99.65, as College Dux, with Subject Dux awards in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Graphics. I completed a Bachelor of Mathematics at QUT 2016-2018, and upon graduation was awarded a University medal (awarded to 1/300 graduands) and the George Curphy Prize in Mathematics (for graduating as the top student in the cohort). After this I completed a Master of Philosophy in Computational Statistics 2019-2020, where I developed novel statistical methodology which has been published in high quality computational statistics journals. Since completing my masters, I’ve worked in various roles in both academia and industry. Now, as I complete my medical studies, I'm keen to work as a tutor.

My goal in teaching is to ensure students understand the "why" of each step of what they're learning. This increases depth of understanding, increases engagement and promotes longer-term memory retention. As such, my approach to tutoring is personalized, and very student-dependent. I like to identify the current level understanding together with any gaps in knowledge that need to be filled. From there, we progressively step through things until the students have a strong grasp on the topic. I'm keen to tutor all types of students (primary school, secondary and tertiary), and students of all different backgrounds. I'm keen to help you be the best, highest scoring student, if that's your goal. I'm also keen to help struggling students, or anything in between, achieve their goals. I've previously tutored high school and undergraduate students. I've also worked as a Sessional Academic teaching undergraduate courses in Mathematics and Statistics.
