About Toren
I have a degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah and a particular interest in helping people understand the ideas behind mathematics, rather than simply memorising methods.
I enjoy explaining difficult concepts from first principles and building intuition step by step. My interests range from calculus, linear algebra and probability to number theory, proofs and more advanced areas of pure mathematics.
I’m especially interested in working with adults who want to learn mathematics out of curiosity, as well as university students who want a clearer understanding of material from their courses.
You do not need to have a particular goal or syllabus in mind. If there is an area of mathematics you have always wanted to understand, I can help work out what background you need and build a path toward it.

Lessons are tailored to what you want to learn and how you learn best.
For university students, we can work through concepts from lectures, problem sheets, proofs and exam questions, with an emphasis on understanding why the methods work rather than simply getting to the answer.
I also offer lessons for people learning mathematics purely out of interest. You might want to understand calculus for the first time, learn how mathematical proofs work, explore number theory or probability, or eventually work toward subjects such as complex analysis, mathematical physics or other higher mathematics.
If you are not sure where to start, that is completely fine. We can use the first lesson to discuss what you already know, what interests you, and build a structured learning path from there.
I try to make lessons interactive: we will work through examples together, identify gaps as they arise, and spend as much time as necessary on the ideas that are not yet intuitive.
