JC & LC Math Grinds (1-to-1) — 15+ years’ experience (JC, LC HL/OL, A-levels, IB). No fluff, just marks. I’ve been tutoring math one-to-one for 15+ years, preparing students for Junior Cycle (common level), Leaving Cert (HL & OL), A-levels and the IB. I combine ruthless clarity with proven exam technique so students improve marks and confidence. How I teach (techniques & methodology) - First lesson = diagnostic + personalized plan. We identify exact gaps, set a realistic target (e.g. H4 → H2) and map weekly milestones. - Concept → method → exam. Short conceptual explanation, a worked example, then targeted past-paper practice with examiner mindset. - Active learning: Socratic questioning, retrieval practice, and spaced repetition to move knowledge from short-term to automatic recall. - Deliberate practice: timed micro-drills, error logs and interleaved problem sets so students stop guessing and start scoring. - Marking-scheme mastery: I teach how marks are awarded and how to write answers that bank method marks. - Scaffolding & transfer: break hard topics into digestible steps, then restore complexity so students can apply skills under pressure.
