About Hitaishi
Hi my name is Hitaishi and I have a strong passion for Mathematics and STEM. I recently graduated from the University of Leicester with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, and I’m now continuing my studies at the University of Manchester, where I’ll be studying Medical Physics in Cancer Radiation Therapy. I’ve always loved Maths because it’s about understanding how and why things work and finding different ways to solve problems. Being a maths tutor for 3 years now has given me a way to share my love for mathematics. I really enjoy helping students discover that Maths can be much less intimidating when it’s explained in a way that makes sense to them. As a tutor, I aim to create a relaxed and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I adapt my teaching to each student, whether they need help building confidence with the basics, preparing for GCSE or A-level exams, tackling challenging topics, or simply becoming more independent in their problem-solving. Being a student myself, I understand how overwhelming exams and difficult topics can feel. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to build their confidence and help them develop skills they can use beyond the classroom. I’m excited to share my love of Maths and STEM with my students and hopefully help them enjoy the subject as much as I do!

My tutoring lessons are fully tailored to each student’s individual needs and goals. I begin by using an exam paper or a set of questions appropriate to their working level to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. From this, I create a personalised list of topics to focus on, whether they are working at KS2, GCSE or A-level. During each lesson, we work through topics step by step. I start by clearly explaining the concept, checking their understanding along the way, before guiding them through examples. We then move on to exam-style questions, allowing students to apply what they have learnt and develop their exam technique. I encourage students to explain their thinking and ask questions, as I believe understanding the reasoning behind a method is more valuable than simply memorising it. I also help students become more independent learners. Where appropriate, I create personalised revision timetables and suggest work they can complete between lessons. This helps students develop organisation, time-management and effective revision habits, while ensuring they take an active role in their own progress. I regularly review their progress through practice questions, exam papers and discussions, adapting our lessons as their confidence and understanding develop. My aim is to provide structure while remaining flexible, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and building confidence.
