About Josh
I have been tutoring since my sophomore year of high school. During university, I spent six months as a teaching assistant and then three years as a tutor for the college of engineering. I find joy in understanding of challenging concepts and I love to share that joy and understanding with others. I am a firm believer that everyone of any background can succeed academically with the right support.

My tutoring strategy starts with a discussion of goals to help me understand specific desired outcomes. When we are working through a specific problem or concept I will usually ask to be walked through your thought process, steps, and will ask you to try and identify where you feel stuck or confused. Some of my favorite methods for gaining understanding include diagrams/visualizations, leading questions, comparison to related courses, small hands-on demos, and demonstrating example problems. During multiple sessions we will figure out what strategies are most effective, and I will emphasize the use of those strategies. When appropriate, I also like to include discussion of strategies for independent problem solving outside of tutoring including effective use of textbooks, online resources, and study strategies.
