About Edoardo
I have been a researcher in theoretical physics for a decade in Humboldt University of Berlin, University of São Paulo, Imperial College London and Stockholm University. I work in financial services in the City of London.
My experience includes student supervision, interview preparation in university panels, science outreach and public engagement. I have practised attentive listening in charities for users seeking wellbeing.
I have cultivated the potential of 10+ young researchers from tutoring, supervision and summer projects to applications, career advice and endorsement. Some trainees started successful careers in Cambridge, King's College London and Oxford.
I have been offering the same services in the not-for-profit LeadTheFuture (13% acceptance rate; ~5 hours/month; ~3 graduates/year, 1+ year). Last year's top achievement was a graduate landing 2 PhD offers. Proud of his confidence boost and the support over 12 months.

===== Overview =====
What makes the difference in the long term is knowing what you want, have the right tools and stay the course. You may be faced with choosing a school, finding opportunities or moving abroad. It turns into an investment when a third party catalyses the progress.
As a mentor I am outside observer. I raise questions to let you draw critical insights. You have the answers and my role is to draw them out. I help you visualise what you want or, when you undertake a path in academia, you can bounce things off with someone who has been in your shoes.
The benefit is a mature mindset to go ahead on your own. The work develops around reflection (vision, goals and solutions through critical questions) and action (you moving forward with a sense of ownership).
Say yes or make you change your mind are out of scope. My endeavour is to express transparent and constructive feedback, name incongruences and hold you accountable for decision making and performance.
===== Clients =====
University and PhD students in STEM. Also in other fields or professionals aged 20-30.
===== Services =====
1) Set and achieve measurable goals.
Sketch out and improve drafts for internships, scholarships, courses or jobs. Given the requirements of the application, you can practise interviews, nail down the meaning behind questions and get feedback on presentations.
2) Identify your skill set and untapped potential
If you think an exam transcript suffices, think again: self-study, computing skills, coding challenges, awards, certifications, bootcamps, Science Olympiads and exchange programmes boost your employability. With the right questions I make you aware of your skills and put them in a coherent profile. One benefit may be that 'aha moment', once you set sail for a small target but a career vision becomes the destination.
3) Cherry-pick achievements for CV, cover letters and LinkedIn.
Hiring managers spend 5 seconds to skim one application. A "knowledge of Python" is a dead giveaway; "self-taught, object-oriented programming, 100 hours, TensorFlow for 2 projects" talks business.
4) Brainstorm to dispel doubts and elicit solutions.
Try out a sounding board where you make decisions for your future. Get asked questions to separate the wheat (facts, accomplishments) from the chaff (inner critic, implicit assumptions, belief systems, naysayers).
==== What is excluded? =====
Search online, write/proofread/submit documents, write referrals/letters. However sessions can definitely involve document review. Mentoring is neither therapy nor magic cure. My endeavour is to "help you to help yourself" with the factors in your control.
===== Initial session =====
You tell what you are up to and express your goals. I ask about your education and work background. We determine whether we can work together, grasp the scope of the work and a course of action.
===== Other sessions =====
We work out each objective. Each one has the effect of fostering a vision, even when you don't have big projects at the time. It is a step forward and sets the next agenda.
===== Language =====
English, Italian
