About Bridget
I started tutoring English when I was in high school and continued on through my first year of college. Once I graduated and moved to NYC from the Hudson Valley, I began tutoring for a few families in Brooklyn. I've worked with students ranging from elementary school to college. I just graduated from CUNY City College with my MFA in film where I was also a teaching assistant for year.

Writing lessons start with a short prompt from me to get the creative juices flowing. Then, we'll read out loud what the student wrote and mark off any corrections that need to be made. Then we'll move on to any outside work that they may have. If they don't have any, I'll pull up some prewritten essays and proofread them for any errors.
With reading lessons, I also start with a prompt, usually a short passage with some opened questions about the story. We read the passage aloud, they answer the questions, and then we go over what they put. After this, we'll move on to any outside work they have. If they don't have any, I'll have a book that we'll read together, little by little each session, followed by more questions about what we read.
I don't like to be the one to make the red marks on essays, so I sit with each student and verbally go through each line of their work and have them take notes on what needs to be fixed so they can make the edits on their own. I also am a firm believer that reading out loud helps tremendously with both comprehension and composition, so that plays a large role in my lessons.
These lessons are adaptable for any age group or grade, including college level as well.
