About Dan
My journey into tutoring began at home, helping my younger sister navigate her own studies. Watching her face light up when a difficult concept finally clicked – when my explanation made something that seemed impossible suddenly make sense – was incredibly rewarding. That experience showed me that effective teaching isn't just about knowing your subject; it's about finding the right way to communicate ideas so they resonate with each individual learner.
Since then, I've pursued my passion for chemistry and mathematics through to postgraduate level, recently completing an MSc in Sustainable Chemical Engineering with distinction at Newcastle University. My own recent experience as a student means I understand firsthand the pressures of exams, the challenges of mastering difficult topics, and the strategies that actually work when it comes to exam success.
What drives me most as a tutor is watching students' confidence grow. I thoroughly believe that confidence is just as important as ability – perhaps even more so. A student who believes in themselves will tackle challenging questions, learn from mistakes, and ultimately achieve results that once seemed out of reach. My goal in every session is not just to improve grades, but to build that self-belief and transform how students approach their learning.

With a strong academic foundation and a passion for making complex concepts accessible, I help students build confidence, master challenging material, and achieve their target grades.
My tutoring methodology centres on personalised learning and confidence building. I believe every student learns differently, so I tailor each session to individual learning styles, current knowledge gaps, and specific academic goals.
Lessons typically range from 60-90 minutes, and are structured to maximise learning efficiency:
1. Review of previous material/homework.
2. Introduction of new concepts with worked examples.
3. Guided practice with increasing independence.
4. Exam-style questions and technique refinement.
5. Summary and homework assignment.
