About Valena
I am a goal-oriented leader and educator with an eye for detail, and a passion for teaching with a focus on student-centered learning.
In addition to conducting in-person training classes, I have instructed and coordinated online courses where I presented syllabi, graded assignments, gave feedback, interacted with and supported students via email, live online sessions, and telephone.

As a tutor, my mission is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel confident, capable, and motivated to grow.
My teaching approach is student-centered and adaptable. Every learner comes with unique strengths, challenges, and goals. I take the time to understand how each student learns best and tailor my instruction accordingly. Whether a student benefits from visual aids, step-by-step breakdowns, discussion-based learning, or hands-on practice, I adjust my methods to meet their needs.
I use a structured yet flexible lesson model built around clarity and active participation. Lessons typically begin with a brief review to reinforce prior learning and build confidence. I then introduce new concepts in clear, manageable steps, modeling the skill before practicing together. Guided practice allows students to apply what they are learning with support, and independent practice helps strengthen understanding and ownership. I conclude each session with reflection and review to ensure mastery and identify areas for growth.
For ESL learners, I integrate vocabulary development, pronunciation practice, conversational exercises, and structured grammar support into every lesson. I prioritize creating a comfortable space for speaking and asking questions, knowing that confidence is essential when learning in a second language.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my patience, encouragement, and commitment to building confidence alongside competence. I believe students learn best when they feel safe to make mistakes and empowered to try again. I focus not only on improving grades or test performance, but also on developing critical thinking skills and independent learning habits that extend beyond our sessions.
I work with elementary, middle school, high school, college-level, and adult learners, including ESL students at various proficiency levels. My goal is to help every student leave each lesson feeling more capable than when they arrived.
Ultimately, teaching for me is about partnership. I guide, support, and challenge students so they can discover their potential and achieve lasting academic success.
