About Thomas
Music is a language all its own, and one that all music enthusiasts ought to experience in their own way. Understanding a language such as music beyond the aesthetic helps both casual and formal listeners gain a greater understanding of what it is they are hearing and perhaps why they are appreciating what they hear (or not!). As a teacher, my ultimate goal is to share the world of music with students in both academic and aesthetic terms, and music theory is the perfect vehicle to attain a greater love for music itself.

I always meet my students where they are, whether individually or in a classroom setting. I have nearly 20 years of experience teaching music theory, tonal and atonal harmony, counterpoint, composition, sight singing, dictation, and form and analysis.
I am well-versed in the rules of common practice theory and can show students at any ability level the means to formalize their understanding of music through traditional theoretical terms. I can also teach atonal theory to secondary and postsecondary students looking for additional help with understanding modern art-music composition.
For beginners, I can teach the fundamentals of notation, various clefs, key signatures, time signatures, interval training, and chord structure.
