About Sasha
My name is Sasha, I am a 24 year old film/theatre director. I am very passionate about tutoring, and have experience teaching IB/A-Level Philosophy and Theatre, as well as GCSE level English and Theatre.
My favourite quote on education is by William Butler Yeats:
‘Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire’.
It is my belief that students succeed in their studies when they are impassioned about what they are doing.
Not only is it the tutor’s job to cover the fundamentals in any discipline, but also to inspire the student; to make them see the work they are doing as meaningful and fun.
My approach to teaching is tailored for the student’s engagement, giving them an opportunity to learn through rigorous yet open-minded discussion of texts and topics, where they can test their ideas and become more confident in whatever task they’re doing.

A typical lesson with me would start with an overview of the path ahead. What are we preparing for? What difficulties need to be resolved?
Let's say you have a 4000 word essay on Kant due in two weeks. You have not done any reading, and you feel completely lost because of this.
To overcome this challenge, we will go over Kant's philosophy from the beginning, so that the reading does not seem so daunting and you feel confident enough to start planning.
Then, I will help you make a detailed essay plan which will be the jumping-off point for your perfect essay.
This mixture of discussion/planning in my experience works best for students at Sixth Form and University level. Discussion is what inspires you, and planning is what guarantees your inspiration comes to fruition.
I have given Philosophy seminars for Lower Sixth students at Sevenoaks School, as well as theatre seminars for students of all ages in Moscow, Warsaw and London.
