About Ivan
I have a range of teaching experiences developed during my career. I have taught introductory biology courses in the Biology Department at Foothill College, Los Altos Hills, CA, and in the Department of Physics at Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA. I was also a Visiting Professor at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, teaching the course “Usual Methods of Molecular Biology Applied to Animal Science.” I also worked for six months in 2011 as an Adjunct Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the State University of Londrina in Brazil. Moreover, throughout my career, I was responsible for elaborating and teaching multiple molecular biology mini-courses during conferences, served as co-advisor for undergraduate and graduate students, and mentored diverse groups of undergraduate students at Dr. Rothschild's lab at NASA Ames Research Center from 2011 through 2019 under the International Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) program and Blue Marble Space Institute of Science' Young Scientist Program (YSP). My experience with outstanding advisors made me realize the difference that an inspiring teacher might have in a student’s life, and because of that, I strive to be a great teacher.
