About Bhavni
Hello! I’m Bhavni, a nationally recognized Hindustani classical vocalist with six years of dedicated formal training. My personal journey in music has been incredibly fulfilling, culminating in a national award that reflects my deep commitment to mastering this beautiful art form.
But beyond my love for singing, my true calling has always been mentorship. Over the years, I have built a strong professional background in education and student support. Through these roles, I discovered how much I genuinely love guiding students, adapting to their unique learning styles, and watching their confidence bloom when they finally master a difficult concept.
I decided to start teaching Hindustani music because I wanted to bridge my two greatest passions. I noticed that classical music is often taught in a very strict, intimidating way that can easily discourage young beginners. I wanted to change that narrative. I teach because I want to pass down our rich cultural heritage in a way that feels approachable, joyful, and deeply rewarding for the next generation.
A typical class with me is dynamic and carefully structured to keep young minds focused. We always start with gentle vocal warm-ups to align the pitch. From there, we move into active ear training—this is where the real fun begins! We work on identifying swars (notes) by ear, practicing "jumping notes" (skipping between notes to build vocal agility and accuracy), and gradually introducing the beautiful komal swars (flat notes) so students understand how to create different moods in music. We always finish by applying these technical concepts to a short, enjoyable melody, leaving the student feeling accomplished.
What truly sets my classes apart is the unique blend of high-level musical technique and deep, adaptive patience. I understand that every child processes music differently, so I tailor my pacing to match their natural rhythm. Additionally, I can comfortably instruct in English, Hindi, and Punjabi, which allows me to connect deeply with students and clearly explain cultural nuances to parents. You won't need to worry about hunting down materials, either—I provide all the necessary practice tracks, structured notes, and clear weekly goals so your child has absolutely everything they need to thrive between lessons.

My teaching method goes far beyond simply asking students to repeat after me; I believe in teaching the "why" alongside the "how." What truly sets my classes apart is that I seamlessly weave the rich theory and history of Hindustani classical music directly into our practical singing. I don't just want my students to memorize a composition—I want them to understand exactly where these beautiful traditions originated, the captivating stories behind the ragas, and the cultural meaning of what they are learning. By explaining the roots of the music through engaging storytelling, I turn complex theory into something fascinating and highly accessible for young minds, rather than a dry memorization task.
A typical class with me is dynamic and carefully structured to keep children focused and excited. We always begin with gentle vocal warm-ups to align our pitch and build healthy voice habits. From there, we move into active ear training, where we practice identifying swars (notes) purely by ear, mastering "jumping notes" to build vocal agility, and gradually exploring komal swars (flat notes) so students understand how to create different moods. Once our voices are warm, we dive into the theory and origin of our topic for the day, connecting the historical "story" to the notes we just practiced. Finally, we bring it all together by applying these techniques and theories to a short, enjoyable melody, leaving the student feeling accomplished.
I make sure you never have to worry about feeling lost between classes. I adapt my pacing to each child's natural rhythm and provide all the necessary practice tracks, structured notes, and clear weekly goals.
