About Jaime
I am a student at Johns Hopkins University majoring in International Studies and Public Health Studies. My family comes from Nicaragua, and I speak fluent Spanish since I have been speaking English! I speak Spanish on the daily in a variety of different settings, ranging from the home, to school, and beyond. I have informally tutored students at my alma mater through after-school tutor programs, to which they have seen great success.

I believe that the key to achieving fluency in a foreign language is immersion; I approach each session with a positive and patient attitude, enthusiasm, and a wide array of materials upon which to base learning. I also believe that it is important to make learning fun, and ensure that I have a bank of resources for each session including songs, current event articles, and interactive activities that ensure my student doesn't lose interest and, in fact, becomes more engaged and enthused with the material. I place a heavy emphasis on speaking, as it is often seen as the most challenging obstacle to achieving fluency (especially without immersion)--I emphasize conversation of life, current events, and pop culture in conversational speaking, along with functional vocabulary to allow for my students to get a fuller grasp of the language that they can use when going abroad (or even within others in their community)!
