About Emma
Hi! I’m Emma, a passionate elementary school teacher who genuinely loves working with children and the natural wonder, curiosity, and creativity they bring to the world every day.
Reading and writing have always been personal passions of mine, and nothing brings me more joy than sparking that same love for literacy and learning in my students. Whether we are unpicking a story, building vocabulary, or mastering a new concept, I aim to make learning feel exciting through exploration and activities rather than like a chore.
When I’m not in the classroom, you’ll usually find me traveling, playing pickleball, running, or curled up with a cup of tea reading Harry Potter! I bring that same energetic, open-minded, and curious spirit into every tutoring session, creating a warm, positive space where children feel safe to try, make mistakes, and grow!

Born and raised in Canada, I hold a Bachelor of Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK, alongside 3 years of teaching experience in an International school in Kuala Lumpur working with students from diverse backgrounds, learning needs, and English language proficiency levels.
My approach is positive and hands-on. I work closely with each child to discover their baseline, target key areas for improvement, and build confidence step-by-step. Lessons are typically 60 minutes long and open to children of all ages, skill levels, and language backgrounds looking for personalized academic support.
To ensure sustainable growth, I structure my lessons using the Gradual Release of Responsibility model ("I Do, We Do, You Do"). I begin by clearly modeling new concepts and strategies, guide your child as we practice together, and finally support them as they demonstrate independent mastery. This structured transition builds true academic self-reliance, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, ensuring students don't just memorize solutions, but deeply understand how to apply their knowledge confidently on their own.
Alternatively, we can focus directly on school-aligned homework and curriculum support. Instead of building from a separate baseline, I will work closely with what your child is currently learning in class- helping them complete assignments, clarify confusing topics, and gain the confidence needed to actively participate and excel in school.

I would highly recommend Emma! She is patient, kind, reliable, and genuinely cares about helping others learn and feel confident in themselves. She has a great way of making people feel comfortable and supported, and I know she would be wonderful to work with. Any student would be lucky to have her as a tutor!
I can’t recommend Emma enough! She holds an education degree from Manchester and has solid classroom experience from both the UK and a top international school in Kuala Lumpur, which really shows in how structured yet approachable her lessons are.
What makes her such a great teacher is how patient and adaptable she is with non-native English speakers in particular. She’s taught kids from over 15 different countries, including complete beginners, and she’s amazing at taking students from scratch to feeling genuinely confident in the language. She seems to know intuitively how to break things down so nothing feels overwhelming!
On top of that, having traveled to 40 countries, she’s super warm, down-to-earth, and easy to talk to. She builds a great connection right away and makes every session feel engaging and natural. If you’re looking for a brilliant English tutor, definitely book a lesson with her!View more recommendations
