  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn it?

I speak Hausa fluently because it is my native tongue and the foundation of my heritage. I grew up immersed in the rich oral traditions, proverbs, and everyday dialogue of the Hausa culture. Over time, my passion grew from simply speaking the language naturally to formally studying its grammar, literature, and nuances so I could teach and share it authentically with learners around the world.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa immediately comes to mind. As a historical figure and a renowned orator, his command of the language, humility, and deep respect for cultural values truly embody the spirit of Hausa culture. His legacy reflects how Hausa can be used with immense eloquence, grace, and dignity.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

I love the greeting culture and the phrase "Sannu da zuwa" (Welcome). In Hausa tradition, greetings are not just polite formal words, they are a genuine expression of empathy, respect, and warmth. Whether someone is returning from a long journey or just taking a short walk from work, acknowledging their effort with warmth is central to our culture.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Hausa is one of the most widely spoken languages across Africa, connecting tens of millions of people across diverse borders and regions. Speaking and teaching Hausa matters deeply to me because it serves as a bridge for cultural understanding, business, and human connection. It allows me to help heritage learners reconnect with their roots and help global professionals navigate business and community life in West Africa.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language, and what can help students with the learning process?

The main challenge for beginners usually lies in mastering the correct pronunciation, subtle tonal shifts, and unique implosive sound consonants. The key to overcoming this is immersive practice, listening to native audio, engaging in natural dialogue, and learning phrases in real conversational contexts rather than memorizing isolated grammar rules.
  • Could you share an anecdote related to your language learning or your student days?

During my student days, I realized how much people appreciate even the smallest effort to speak their language authentically. I once helped an international student go from zero knowledge to holding a full 10-minute conversation with a local merchant entirely in Hausa. Seeing their confidence grow and witnessing the merchant's instant smile made me fall in love with language tutoring forever.
  • How has travel or a specific experience helped you to increase your understanding and appreciation of the language?

Interacting with Hausa speakers from different regions and backgrounds opened my eyes to the beautiful regional accents and idiomatic expressions across West Africa. It taught me that language is a living, breathing experience that adapts to everyday life, which helps me teach my students practical, real-world Hausa rather than just textbook phrases.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

What makes me a Superprof is my patient, highly interactive, and personalized approach to teaching. As a native speaker with a strong background in linguistics, translation, and media production, I don't just teach vocabulary, I break down complex concepts into simple, enjoyable steps. I tailor every lesson to my student's specific goals, ensuring they speak confidently from day one in a supportive, high-energy environment.
