About Rachele
I'm an Italian native speaker, born in the Italian part of Switzerland. I completed two degrees in translation (BA and MSc), during which I practiced translating from English, French and Spanish into Italian. My academic path allowed me to study Italian in greater detail, improving my sensitivity to the subtleties of the language and my writing skills. At the moment I work as a freelance translator and, due to the nature of my job and its requirements, I constantly practice not only my working languages (English, Spanish and French), but also Italian. Indeed, having to translate movies or documents into Italian prompts me to stay up to date with Italian terminology and this is a useful resource I can offer to students. In general, I am passionate about languages and linguistics and I like teaching for different reasons. To begin with, I think that knowing another language is a great advantage as it allows people to communicate with more individuals and thus to enrich their knowledge. Therefore, I am very happy if I can assist someone in achieving this. Furthermore, I like helping people when I can, and to me teaching is a way of doing so. Finally, giving tutoring lessons is my manner of sharing the knowledge I gained through my experiences. Having been a student myself and learnt different foreign languages, I know what difficulties students might find and help them overcoming them.

I aim at having a very personalised teaching methodology. I always make sure I take into account the students' necessities, skills as well as possible learning difficulties, so to make the tutoring sessions more effective and useful for the students. Thus, depending on the student's situation, for instance I would focus more on grammar topics, writing, listening or speaking exercises. Moreover, when structuring the lessons, it is very important for me to know what the students want to achieve, so that I can help them better attain their goal. The students' progress will be measured through different exercises and homework. Going through some exercises with the students will allow me not only to see where they encounter more problems, but also to adapt my teaching (structure and content) for future lessons. Furthermore, in order to encourage learning, I will organise the lessons so that they are entertaining and not too monotonous (e.g. matching grammar topics with readings about Italian culture). In this way, the students will also gain a general knowledge of Italian (cultural and historic), and not only a linguistic one.

I needed someone to speak French to on a regular basis to keep up my French, and Rachele has been the ideal tutor for that. She takes the time to research interesting topics to discuss which forces me to use a wider range of vocabulary, she points out the errors that I make without making me feel embarrassed (which was a major fear of mine), and she is very good at explaining grammatical points. It's been fantastic because now that I've started learning Spanish, I've been able to practice my Spanish with her too! She's also very flexible in terms of class content as well as time slots to meet up or work via Skype.
Rachele helped me improving my study method and taught me how to write in an academic way and structure my essays. She was very patient and attentive to my needs and gave me many good pieces of advice.
