About Monica
I was born and raised in Tokyo by a Japanese mother, and have attended local elementary, middle, and high school, with 15+ years of living experience. Currently I am a student with an academic GPA of 4.66, and will be attending UC Santa Barbara in the fall. Growing up in Japan with Japanese friends gives me insight not only to the language, but the current, most up-to-date culture as well, regarding school life, slang, social culture, and corporate landscapes. I provide highly tailored Japanese lessons to individuals of all levels, for goals ranging from casual conversations, assistance in school academia, JLPT success, and even corporate usage. I’m friendly and outgoing, and most importantly “skilled in breaking down complex topics for learners to easily understand,” according to the review of a past student. I'm fluent in English and Korean besides Japanese, so I can conduct lessons in either language. I'm a quick responder, so don’t hesitate to contact me!

Depending on the student's goals, lessons will include: - Vocabulary building—learn vital nouns, verbs, and adjectives that Japanese use most - Sentence building practices and syntax review that students most often struggle with - One-on-one improvised conversation practice, from casual/slang chats to professional interviews - Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji writing practice—we will be using actual workbooks Japanese elementary-schoolers use to emulate the experience and learn most efficiently. - An overview of modern Japanese tradition and culture if desired; please inquire. - JLPT practice if desired; please inquire. I believe in learning language through culture, so we will be listening to and translating Japanese movies and literature in real time often. Lessons are geared for all ages, from high school students to college students to business persons, and are highly customizable. I'll gladly respond to specific requests!
