About Alba
My name is Alba Izquierdo and I am a native Spanish speaker from the north of Spain. I graduated one year ago from the University of Oviedo with a degree in Spanish linguistics and literature. I am also certified in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. I have moved to the United States in pursuit of teaching Spanish as it is my passion! I have experience in teaching all ages, from toddlers to adults, with the majority of my experience being in a one-on-one environment. I really enjoy finding which method works best for each student and helping them to accomplish their language goals.

My lessons are fully customizable based on three factors, the student's goals, age, and Spanish proficiency. My method involves a lot of guided responses to my questions. I believe this helps to encourage comfortability with speaking rather than only knowing the technicalities of the language. In my lessons, grammar and sentence structure is learned through speech, although I encourage note-taking for review. My typical lesson will consist of 30 minutes of question & answer which will teach new vocabulary through contextual method, meaning that the student is able to understand new vocabulary using context clues from the rest of the sentence. This forms a sort of immersion experience where the student will learn new words without needing to simply memorize the translation. This method accelerates the learning process allowing the student to think in Spanish rather than think in English and translate into Spanish. The rest of the lesson can consist of reading / writing in Spanish if the student desires. If the student does not wish to learn reading and writing, the other half of the lesson will focus more on grammar with some vocabulary review from the previous lesson to ensure retention of the material.
