About Amaya
I'm Amaya, a native Spanish and English speaker. I grew up in Spain, did all of my secondary and undergraduate education in Madrid, and now live near Grenoble with my French partner. My professional life has been conducted in Spanish, English and, increasingly, French, across design studios, research groups and cultural organizations in Madrid, Brooklyn, Copenhagen and now France.
I've been tutoring since I was fourteen, working with students from age four to adult, in both Spanish and English. What I love about language teaching is the moment a student stops translating in their head and starts thinking in the new language: the first joke, the first argument, the first time they realize they don't remember which language they just had a conversation in. My lessons are built around getting you there, whatever your starting point.

MY APPROACH: Lessons are conversational, structured, and adapted to each student's level, goals and interests. Spanish people actually speak and write rather than simply textbook Spanish. With younger children, I lean on games, stories, drawing and songs. With teenagers, I combine conversation, reading, writing practice and support with schoolwork. With adults, we work on whatever you actually need the language for: travel, family, living in a Spanish-speaking country, work, studies, or simply the pleasure of reading and speaking well.
A TYPICAL LESSON: I usually open with a short warm-up in Spanish to settle into the language, then move into the main focus we've agreed on (such as a text, a writing task, a grammar point, a conversation exercise, a presentation rehearsal, or work on a specific document) and finish with something lighter. I keep notes on each student so progress is visible and lessons build on each other.
WHAT SETS ME APART: I'm a native speaker of Spanish from Madrid, with Cambridge C2 in English and working French, which means I can scaffold in whichever language a student actually needs when a concept is stuck. Over a decade of tutoring experience across ages 4 to adult, including formal classroom teaching of young children in Madrid. For adults I bring a second layer: I work professionally as a designer, researcher and editor in Spanish and English, so I can support academic writing (theses, articles, literature reviews), professional writing (CVs, cover letters, emails, reports, presentations), and DELE exam preparation from direct experience rather than from a textbook.
WHO THE LESSONS ARE FOR: Children and teenagers from age 4 upward, at any level. Adults learning Spanish for travel, family, work, or personal interest, from absolute beginner to advanced. University students and researchers writing in Spanish or preparing oral defenses. Working professionals needing Spanish for business, meetings, presentations or written communication with Spanish-speaking clients or colleagues. Students preparing for DELE certifications. Online or in person around Grenoble. The first lesson is free so we can meet and decide together how to move forward.
