About Beatrice

I have 8 years of experience teaching both children and adults, both face to face and online. I am an Italian native speaker but I am also fluent in English (IELTS level C1), which facilitates communication during lessons. I obtained my Diploma di Stato (equivalent to A-levels) in 2018 in Rome, scoring 82/100. I have several AS and A level taken here in UK. I also have a BSc in Nutrition (1st class) and a MSc in Physiology (1st class).

My scientific background makes my content and delivery very structured and logical! I love a flowchart, a diagram, and any visual aid possible to simplify complex topics. My tutoring business is my baby, I am so very passionate about it. I started teaching when I was around 19, and I enjoyed it so much that I never stopped. Wherever life takes me, I will always continue to support students in their language-learning journeys.

About the lesson

My methodology is structured, but I easily adapt to students' styles and preferences. 99% of the students who come to me want to learn how to talk to people, so I am used to this request. I help them achieve this by ensuring that they know their grammar inside and out, and by supporting them with their speaking alongside it. The more we build on the grammar, the more we can build on the speaking, simultaneously.

I have dozens of presentations that I use as a starting point for all students. These have been tried and tested over the many years I have been teaching, and are constantly updated reflecting students' feedback. They are grammar-heavy to start, and include more and more speaking tasks and comprehension tests as we go along. Most slides also have audio recordings to support pronunciation. The activities vary based on the level the student is in and build up smoothly.

My course is not for the faint-hearted! To succeed, you must be truly committed to this learning journey, and have a fair amount of discipline and consistency. I usually recommend 1h a week with me and one doing homework, which is achievable in my experience. Join many other motivated students and finally see results!

Perfect! Beatrice is an exceptionally good teacher... Although she is still young she has been teaching Italian to foreigners for over 7 years already and has a great system that is clearly well tried and tested.

She pushes hard but appropriately so and definitely with the best interests of the student in mind. She is also full of encouragement and has a sincere passion for teaching the language.

The only reason I've been dragging my feet over giving a rave review is that I don't want too much competetion for her diary! Genuinely can't imagine that there's a better Italian teacher out there. I feel very lucky to have found her and am confident that I will learn a lot with her if I put in the work!

This first lesson is free to allow you to get to know your teacher so that they can best meet your needs.

Details

I offer the first session for free, which lasts 30 minutes. If the student prefers, the first session can be 1h long for half my hourly rate. All future lessons are £30/h. The cost of each lesson includes the hour tuition, as well as all teaching materials such as presentations and audio resources, and the costs of the booking system.

Since I have many students, I kindly request for payments to be made on the same day as each lesson, so it is easier to keep track.

Due to the freelance nature of the role, I have a cancellation policy. All lessons can be canceled free of charge at least 24h before the starting time. Any cancellations made less than 24h from the lesson's starting time will be charged at my hourly rate. However, I understand emergencies can happen, so I allow 1 free last-minute cancellation for all students.

Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
I was born and raised in Rome! Italian is my mother tongue, however, I have been in the UK for over 6 years so I have mostly lost my accent (believe it or not).
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
Spritz. Spritzes are a lifestyle and one of the few things you will not catch us arguing on.
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?
Italians are upfront, you will never be confused.
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
Although I am very settled in the UK, speaking Italian remains essential to me to keep in touch with family and friends, which I do daily.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
Learning Italian is not for the faint hearted. Some grammar topics may drive you a little bit insane... The best advice I can give is to study regularly, print off the slides, take notes on them, ask me anything that goes through your mind without fear, and use all the resources I recommend. Accept you will make mistakes and trust that your consistent efforts will get you where you want to be.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
Both my mum and my grandma taught Italian (and latin!) so, when I was in school, doing badly or reading rarely was not an option. I graduated with top grades and won an award for the student who read most books in the school!
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
I believe 20 years in the country are sufficient.
What makes you a Superprof in language?
Although I am actually a scientist, teaching has always been a passion. I have been doing this for around 7 years and counting. I have plenty of experience, and my teaching to you will always be based on all the questions I got from students over the years. I know what you are going to ask before you think you have a question. My method is tried and tested.
