About Catherine
I am currently a neuroscience PhD student, who graduated with their bachelor of science in biochemistry and neuroscience and have tutored for 6 years now in math, biology and chemistry . Alongside my tutoring experience I have worked as a teaching assistant in upper division undergraduate courses and as a head instructor in STEM enrichment courses for grades K-12 (robotics, life sciences). As a PhD student I have a strong research background to help develop skills in critical thinking and working knowledge in a subject.
As a tutor, it is important to address what the student wants to get out of a tutoring session (needing help for a particular exam versus long term tutoring).

I am able to tutor in biology and chemistry at the high school level (including AP/IB) to the undergraduate level. In math, I am able to tutor at the high school level but up to Calculus II at the undergraduate level.
As a tutor, I plan to work with the student in areas in need of improvement and level of improvement needed. I first asses the current working knowledge of the student in a given subject, and what the goals of the student are in tutoring. Then we are able to create a lesson plan (either short term or long term) on which parts of the subject should be covered more thoroughly, to improving the working knowledge in parts of the subject the student is already confident on. I am also able to help develop effective study habits to continue to improve upon in the subject. As a tutor as well, I am able to supply the student to helpful free online resources in their subject and help them create study guides.
