About Heidi
My philosophy is that working with my students should be the safest place on Earth in that moment for them to be wrong, to be confused, to ask for help, and to learn. I am known for my compassion, patience, and unique ways of explaining math topics. I often hear, "Oh my goodness! You made that so easy!" My students often bring their siblings, spouses and children to me for tutoring.

I am very patient, kind and respectful. When a student is struggling, I maintain an emotionally safe and encouraging atmosphere. I am happy to answer the same question over and over until the student is satisfied they understand. I try to break topics down into tiny bites and show how they relate to what the student has previously learned. I try to explain WHY we do what we do as often as possible. I study how a student thinks and I adjust my teaching to fit their processing style. As often as possible, I use color to illustrate actions I am taking. This way, students not only learn from what they hear but visually get to see it demonstrated. I also have many helpful tips on how to remember what is learned as well as ways to develop better testing skills. I have experience helping students with many different disabilities as well. My experience teaching Math is from elementary through college algebra. I taught for over 20 years at a community college, as well as homeschool, tutoring, public and private schools. I have taught online and face-to-face for many years.
