About Valery
Hello! My name is Valery and I am a fourth year nuclear engineering student. I am interested in my field of study beyond what I learn in my classes, and I enjoy staying up to date with new developments and discoveries in the field.
As part of my academic career, I have gained substantial knowledge of various branches of chemistry. As part of my personal studies, I have substantial knowledge of particle physics.
I believe that true knowledge is demonstrated by the ability to teach someone about the concept while using simple terms, without unnecessarily complicating the material, using jargon, or bombarding students with long words.
I have 3 years of experience tutoring students, and I find that after a few sessions, even those most opposed to the material begin to enjoy our sessions.
I will have succeeded as a tutor when you no longer need my help to understand the concepts, and when you can use the foundation that we have built together to build your future knowledge.

I offer two types of sessions: student guided and tutor guided with pre-prepared material.
Student Guided Sessions: $30/hour. These sessions are about helping the student with material that they are struggling with in class or on their own. The student brings material that they'd like to cover during the session, and if needed, I will provide material to expand on the concepts.
Tutor Guided Sessions: $50/hour. For these sessions I will prepare the material based on the student's requests (e.g. "U of T Inorganic Chemistry prep"). This includes the basic material that is expected to be covered by the topic, expanded material that will make it easier to understand the topic, and personalized homework sets targeting the student's weaknesses or areas of interest.
As an experienced tutor, my goal is to help you understand the material by presenting it in a way compatible with your learning style.
Having studied various strands of chemistry, I can not only teach you the material in your course, but help you gain an understanding of it beyond the classroom.
I make an effort to stay up to date with the grade school curriculum, and up to date with new developments in the field for those studying at a university level.
My typical student has 1-2 sessions per week. I offer up to one weekly homework/review set free of charge, and access to all lesson notes through google drive.
As a student, you can expect to go over your in-class material until your understanding is at the level of what you are learning in your course. Afterwards, you can expect one weekly review session to cement your understanding and what you learned in class, and one session where we will work ahead, or dissect the material for in-depth understanding of the concepts (your choice).
As a parent, you can expect updates on your child's progress after each session, describing their strengths and the areas we will be working on in future sessions.
