About Cathleen
I am committed to helping students feel confident, capable, and well prepared in their studies. Throughout high school, I consistently challenged myself with advanced coursework, including AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and AP Biology. These rigorous classes strengthened not only my subject knowledge but also my discipline, organization, and problem-solving skills. As a senior now enrolled at NYU, I bring both strong academic preparation and a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed at a high level.
I specialize in math and related subjects, and I am comfortable teaching a wide range of topics with clarity and structure. In addition, I have experience teaching Chinese to overseas students ages 8 to 10, which helped me develop patience, adaptability, and effective communication skills. I understand that every student learns differently, and I take professionalism seriously in every lesson. My goal is always to create a supportive, focused environment where students feel respected, encouraged, and confident in their ability to improve.

I am an NYU Stern Finance student teaching math from elementary through high school in Los Angeles, and I focus on helping students build strong foundations that last. I believe math should be understood step by step, not memorized, so I explain concepts clearly, work through examples together, and then guide students as they practice independently. A typical lesson includes a short review, structured instruction, guided problems, and time for students to try on their own with feedback. I work with students in elementary math, middle school math, Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, and SAT prep, whether they need extra support or want to get ahead. I also teach piano with 14 years of experience, but my main academic focus is helping students grow confident and capable in math!
