About Jose
Hi! I’m Jose Thayil, a recent graduate from Westlake Boys High School and current university student pursuing a Conjoint Bachelor of Commerce and Science. I’ve earned NZQA Scholarships in English, Accounting, Statistics, and Classics, and I love helping students reach their potential.
I’ve tutored both formally and through school-based volunteering, and I’m committed to making learning enjoyable and effective. Whether it’s acing NCEA internals, prepping for externals, or building foundational confidence, I tailor my lessons to each student's needs.

I believe in working through problems step-by-step with students to build a strong and thorough understanding of Accounting concepts. Lessons typically run for 1 hour and focus on clear explanations, real-world examples, and plenty of guided practice.
My qualifications include exemplary NCEA results and a Scholarship in Accounting, reflecting both subject mastery and the ability to explain ideas clearly. I aim to make accounting feel approachable, logical, and even enjoyable — especially for students who may find it overwhelming at first.
My Accounting lessons are best suited for students from Year 5 to Year 12, whether they’re new to the subject or looking to refine their understanding for internals, externals, or Scholarship.

Perfect! Jose was kind, helpful and encouraging to a beginning accounting student. He gave clear explanations of materials, and even more importantly, checked for understanding by having the student explain concepts back in his own words. The session was intense and thorough but also energising, and confidence-inspiring.
