I am a certified teacher with a science background. I have taught at the elementary and college levels for over fifteen years. My greatest passion is empowering my students to make sense of the world around them, thereby facilitating their ability to make wise decisions.

My class begins with an exploration of the topic with the aim of making connections with what you already know. I prefer real-world examples. I enjoy questions at any point in the lesson (the more, the better!) as I sincerely believe that curiosity on the parts of both student and teacher is one of the keys to ultimate success. I use a problem-solving model that is intuitive and effective and we will walk through its application together to build confidence. We progress to a problem and, after a brief introduction, the student attempts a solution independently whenever possible, all the while actively thinking about the best approach given resources and other assumptions and limitations. The solution is taken up together, identifying your areas of strength and incorporating suggestions for becoming even better at problem-solving. While my approach is paced to the needs of the student, it is expected that students work hard to achieve the success they desire. There will be plenty of opportunities to practise, but there is no short cut to actually doing the required work. After all, you're better at what you practise!
