About Melanie
Professional musician:
Cello is my main instrument. I teach the Cello from beginner to advanced level, and perform in a variety of settings. Some of my recordings are online - Amazing Grace, Scarborough Fair and Hallelujah, which I have arranged for several cellos.
Piano is my second instrument. I teach beginners to ABRSM Grade 5/6 level.

I aim to give each student the opportunity to learn at their own pace, so that they fully understand what they are doing.
Developing both the technical and musical aspects of the student's playing is essential for consistent improvement. Myself and my students do some Solfa singing (doh, re, mi) and movement work (with the body) together, both of which make a huge difference to their understanding of the musical language.
I also offer practice supervision (strings and piano students), in which I assist them with "How" to practice; this could be how to go about improving rhythm, playing with a stable beat/rhythm, taking a difficult section of a piece to bits, and so on. Practice technique and attitude to practice are very important.
