About Uma
I’m a singing tutor with over 13 years of experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Studies. I love blending traditional vocal techniques with modern technology like DAWs, vocal processors, and studio microphones. This helps my students prepare not just to sing, but to record and create their own music confidently. I specialize in genres such as R\&B, Soul, Acoustic Pop, and Contemporary Christian. My lessons focus on lyric interpretation, tone shaping, harmonies, and phrasing to bring songs to life. Whether you’re a hobbyist or an aspiring recording artist, I tailor my teaching to meet your unique goals. I believe singing is a powerful form of storytelling. Together, we explore how to express emotion through your voice and studio creativity. Using modern tools, we work on polishing your sound and building your confidence in front of a mic. My singing approach is tailored to help both The Music Major and The Suzuki Student prepare confidently for auditions and build a strong vocal portfolio. For song selection, I focus on choosing pieces that highlight each student’s vocal tone and strengths. Matching the right vocal tone ensures a natural, expressive performance. Controlled dynamics are also a key part of my lessons, helping students convey emotion and keep the audience engaged.
Both personas benefit greatly from vocal agility exercises, which improve flexibility and control. Mock auditions are included to build confidence and reduce performance anxiety. I encourage exploring different genres to broaden vocal skills and adaptability.
To support practice, I recommend using backing track apps for timing and rhythm, lyric trainers to perfect wording, and pitch analyzers to stay on key. These tools make practice more effective and interactive.
The Music Major gains deeper technical skills, while The Suzuki Student builds strong foundational habits. Together, these strategies prepare students for any audition or performance. Consistent practice and focused coaching lead to impressive, polished vocals.
