About Mike
I have just finished my first year studying Physics at Oxford University and hold A levels in maths, further maths, physics, chemistry and biology. For the past year I have been tutoring GCSE maths to students at a local school, specifically working with those who are struggling most.

I believe it is important to adjust my approach to suit the learning style of each student and to ensure that the tutorial builds logically on from what they already know. I like to give students a few questions to attempt prior to the tutorial, which we can go through and which will allow me to assess where the student is currently at in terms of level of understanding. There is no need to spend too long worrying about these questions, they just help me to find a good starting point! We will then go over the key concepts together and I will walk the student through my solutions to a relevant exam question. I will then ask the student to attempt a few more past exam questions, and I will offer guidance as necessary, and highlight key techniques and points to remember. While this is my general approach, I will of course adjust to the needs of the student and try to find a teaching style that works best for them.
