  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have always had a strong interest in politics, particularly in understanding how decisions are made and how they affect society. During my A-levels, I received academic support that not only helped me improve but also deepened my passion for the subject. Having someone believe in my potential and guide me through challenging topics made a huge difference to my confidence. That experience inspired me to want to be that source of support for other students and help them realise their own abilities.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach and the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I help students apply for PPE at Oxford and teach politics and economics. I enjoy discussing topics that naturally spark debate and curiosity, such as political ideologies, current affairs, and power structures within government. I particularly enjoy moments when students become genuinely excited to share their opinions and challenge ideas respectfully. Topics students feel less connected to can be more challenging, but I see these as opportunities to make the content engaging by linking it to real-world examples and issues that matter to them.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Absolutely. I had an economics teacher who was incredibly passionate about his subject. Every lesson felt unmissable because of the care, effort, and enthusiasm he put into his teaching. He explained complex ideas clearly and always made sure we understood why the content mattered. His dedication showed me the impact a great teacher can have and strongly influenced my own approach to tutoring.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a good tutor needs to be adaptable, kind, and approachable, as every student learns differently. Strong subject knowledge is essential, but so is the ability to explain ideas clearly and patiently. Creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes is just as important as academic expertise.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

When I first started studying politics at A-level, I actually failed my first exam. I had just moved to the UK, and the structure, expectations, and exam technique were completely unfamiliar to me. Despite putting in a lot of effort, I realised that working hard alone wasn’t enough if I didn’t understand how to study effectively for the subject. Thanks to the support and guidance of excellent teachers, I learned how to approach politics differently. Rather than demoralising me, that initial failure became a turning point. I went on to achieve an A* in my next exam and ultimately as my final grade.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the main challenges is that as the world is constantly evolving, so are politics and economics, meaning there is always more to learn. This can sometimes feel overwhelming, but I see it as an exciting aspect of the subject. It motivates me to stay informed, continuously improve my knowledge, and bring fresh perspectives into my tutoring.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My main passion is teaching in a way that encourages critical thinking. I want to help students question ideas, form their own opinions, and understand the world around them. I strongly believe education plays a key role in shaping thoughtful, informed individuals who can contribute positively to society.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I believe my kindness, strong work ethic, and genuine commitment to my students set me apart. I care deeply about helping students succeed and feel confident in their abilities. I am dedicated, reliable, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure my students get the most out of every session.
