About Athena
I love teaching and really care about the future of every one of my students. I studied English and French (Joint Honours) at the University of Oxford. I then qualified as a teacher and started my career at North London Collegiate. I also taught at Mill Hill, Hong Kong University, the French International School and both Kingston and Surrey universities. At the University of Hong Kong I was awarded the best Lecturer prize. In Hong Kong I tutored students from St. Paul's Co-ed, DGS, DBS, Island School, HKIS and the German Swiss International School. My students, from the UK, Hong Kong and elsewhere, have gained places at Sevenoaks School, Charterhouse, Wellington and Marlborough, as well as other academically rigorous establishments. My GCSE and IGCSE students, IB students and A-level students have all improved significantly after tuition from me. My 11+ and 13+ students have really benefitted from one-to-one coaching. In addition, I have helped many students get into Oxbridge and the Ivy League. For UK universities I help with all subjects and not simply English and French. I also coach SAT English for American universities. I have recently published a bestselling book entitled "UCAS, UNIS and YOU". I am a friendly, caring but perfectionist tutor! I love to see my students doing well and realising their potential. At the start I assess the areas that need the most work, and we focus on those. I am very exam-oriented so whether it is the entrance exam for Sevenoaks or Charterhouse, or A-level English, or AQA English Paper 2, I make sure that my students are fully prepared. My recent Amazon bestselling book "UCAS, UNIS, and YOU" was the result of 20 years' helping students get into their dream university. I am a global tutor so these universities have included Harvard, Stanford, Princeton and Yale as well as Oxford, Cambridge and LSE. I help them prepare the written applications and also prepare students for interviews. I seem to be especially in demand for students applying for Medicine as I am an expert with the MMIs and medical ethical dilemma questions. Although most of my students are between 9 and 18 I also work with undergraduates and am able to adapt my lessons to any age. The youngest student I have had was 5 and after working with a 6 year old for one year she tested two years above her reading age. I am a firm believer that each child is wonderfully unique and so every lesson is tailor-made. I am rather old school but that also includes birthday presents, and congratulations presents, for all my students!
